At My Front Door (Crazy Little Mama) by The El Dorados, great early rock and roll

Doo Wop

Here are the roots of rock and roll and one of the fine golden oldies. This song, which is also sometimes called “Crazy Little Mama,” about a crazy little mama who keeps knocking at his door. And this record really rocks. There are great drums, saxophone, and  falsetto part by lead singer Pirkle Lee Moses, Jr., during the last third of the song. In 1955, it was #1 on the R&B chart (and it stayed on the chart for 18 weeks). It went to #17 on the U.S. Pop Chart.

The El Dorados formed in Chicago in the early 1950s as Pirkle Lee and the Five Stars. They eventually changed some group members and their name to The El Dorados after the Cadillac car. On this record are Pirkle Lee Moses, Jr., Louis Bradley, Jewel Jones, James Maddox, and Richard Nickens.

Here are the lyrics to “At My Front Door” by The El Dorados:

“Crazy little mama come knocking
Knocking at my front door, door, door
Crazy little mama come knocking
Knocking at my front door

Crazy little mama come knock, knock, knocking
Just like she did before

I woke up this morning with a feeling of despair
Looking for my baby and she wasn’t there
Heard someone knocking much to my surprise
There stood my baby looking in my eyes

Crazy little mama come knock, knock, knocking
Just like she did before

If you got a little mama and you want to keep her neat
Keep your little mama off my street
Same thing will happen like it did before
She’ll come knock, knock, knocking at my door

Crazy little mama come knock, knock, knocking
Just like she did before

Crazy little mama come knocking
Knocking at my front door, door, door
Crazy little mama come knocking
Knocking at my front door

Crazy little mama come knock, knock, knocking
Just like she did before
Womp womp doodly womp
Uh womp womp doodly womp womp womp

If you got a little mama and you want to keep her neat
Keep your little mama off my street
Same thing will happen like it did before
She’ll come knock, knock, knocking at my door

Crazy little mama come knock, knock, knocking
Just like she did before

Crazy little mama come knock, knock, knocking
Just like she did before
Oh, oh, ooh, ooh”

After a song is featured, it then goes into the juke box. You are welcome to listen to any of the 40+ selections there. Every weekend, there is a Golden Oldies Juke Box Saturday, and the juke box is full of song requests from the 1950s and 1960s.
