Dusty Springfield I Only Want to be With You

Female Pop Stars

This song was recorded by Dusty Springfield in 1963 while she was still a member of The Springfields. Her group disbanded shortly after  this solo recording. It was released in November 1963 and became a huge success, reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, #4 in the U.K., and #6 in Australia. The song was performed by Springfield on the first ever edition of the BBC’s Top of the Pops on January 1, 1964.

“I Only Want To Be With You”  was arranged and conducted by Ivor Raymonde, who was known for his cascading tom-tom fills and staccato horn section set against soaring rock strings.

Here are the lyrics to “I Only Want to Be With You” by Dusty Springfield:

“I don’t know what it is that makes me love you so
I only know I never want to let you go
‘Cause you’ve started something
Oh, can’t you see?
That ever since we met
You’ve had a hold on me
It happens to be true
I only want to be with you

It doesn’t matter where you go or what you do
I want to spend each moment of the day with you
Oh, look what has happened with just one kiss
I never knew that I could be in love like this
It’s crazy but it’s true
I only want to be with you

You stopped and smiled at me
And asked if I’d care to dance
I fell into your open arms
And I didn’t stand a chance
Now listen honey
I just want to be beside you everywhere
As long as we’re together, honey, I don’t care
‘Cause you’ve started something
Oh, can’t you see?
That ever since we met
You’ve had a hold on me
No matter what you do
I only want to be with you

Oh, oh, you stopped and you smiled at me
And asked if I’d care to dance
I fell into your open arms
And I didn’t stand a chance
Now hear me tell you
I just want to be beside you everywhere
As long as we’re together, honey, I don’t care
‘Cause you’ve started something
Oh, can’t you see?
That ever since we met
You’ve had a hold on me
No matter what you do
I only want to be with you
I said no matter, no matter what you do
I only want to be with you”
