Ernie K Doe Mother in Law

Ernie K-Doe Mother-In-Law

R&B Songs

The song, which was sung by Ernie K-Doe (Ernest Kador, Jr.) and written by Allen Toussaint, reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the R&B Chart in 1961. K-Doe was born and raised in New Orleans. Before his solo recordings, he had been a member of the group the Blue Diamonds. He was a DJ as well as a performer. K-Doe also owned a music club and bar in New Orleans called “Ernie K-Doe’s Mother-in-Law Lounge.”

Alain Toussaint was an musician, composer, arranger, and record producer. He is known for songs including “Java,” “I Like it Like That,” Working in the Coal Mine,” “Southern Nights,” and many more.

Here are the lyrics:

“Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
The worst person I know
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
She worries me so
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
If she leave us alone
We would have a happy home
Sent from down below
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Satan should be her name
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
To me they are about the same
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Everytime I open my mouth
She steps in to put me out
How could she stoop so low
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
I come home with my pay
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
She ask me what I made
Mother-in-law, mother-in-law
She thinks her advice is a constitution
If she would leave that should be the solution
And don’t come back no more
My mother-in-law, mother-in-law.”

For More Golden Oldies Music

The Daily Doo Wop Rec Room has daily featured doo wop music, rock and roll hits, R&B, or rockabilly songs that were hits during the first era of rock and roll (that is, from about 1952 until the British invasion in 1964). After a song is featured, it then goes into the juke box. You are welcome to listen to any of the 40+ selections there. Every weekend, there is a Golden Oldies Juke Box Saturday Night, and the juke box is full of song requests from the 1950s and 1960s.
