Fats Domino Blueberry Hill

Fats Domino Blueberry Hill

Rhythm and Blues

A very happy birthday to Fats Domino, who is turning 88 this month. “Blueberry Hill” performed by Fats Domino is a  classic song and a classic sentiment. It’s one of the great golden oldies and a juke box favorite. The song was written by Vincent Rose, Al Lewis and Larry Stock for a 1940 Western, titled The Singing Hill. Gene Autry sang the song in the movie. Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa,  and Kay Kaiser were among those who recorded versions, as did Louis Armstrong. The version by Fats Domino, though, had that special beat and sound. In 1956, it went to #1 on the R&B Chart and #2 on the Billboard Top 40 Chart. Many covers were to follow, including those by Pat Boone, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Ricky Nelson, Andy Williams, and The Beach Boys — just to name a few. But there’s only one Fats Domino.

Fats Domino is the stage name of Antoine Dominique Domino, Jr. , who was born on February 26, 1928, in New Orleans. He is a national treasure.

Here are the lyrics to “Blueberry Hill” by Fats Domino:

“I found my thrill
On Blueberry Hill
On Blueberry Hill
When I found you

The moon stood still
On Blueberry Hill
And lingered until
My dream came true

The wind in the willow played
Love’s sweet melody
But all of those vows you made
Were never to be

Though we’re apart
You’re part of me still
For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill

The wind in the willow played
Love’s sweet melody
But all of those vows you made
Were never to be

Though we’re apart
You’re part of me still
For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill”
