Fats Domino I'm Walkin'

Rock ‘n’ Roll

The song, written by Domino and Dave Bartholomew, was inspired (so the story goes) by an incident where Domino’s car broke down and a fan commented upon the fact that Domino was walking. Domino thought to himself, “Yeah, I’m walking,” and wrote the song in his head as he walked. Whatever the inspiration was, the song went to #1 on the R&B Chart and #4 on the Pop Singles Chart in 1957. It was a hit for a young Ricky Nelson as well.

Fats Domino is the stage name of Antoine Dominique Domino, Jr. , who was born on February 26, 1928, in New Orleans. Pianist, singer, and songwriter, Fats Domino has had more charted hits than any other classic rock and roll artist except for Elvis Presley. Fats Domino died on October 24, 2017.

Here are the lyrics to “I’m Walkin'” by Fats Domino:

I’m walkin’, yes indeed and I’m talkin’
About you and me, I’m hopin’
That you’ll come back to me, yeah-yeah
I’m lonely as I can be, I’m waitin’
For your company, I’m hopin’
That you’ll come back to me
What you gonna do when the well runs dry?
You gonna run away and hide
I’m gonna run right by your side
For you pretty baby I’ll even die
I’m walkin’, yes indeed and I’m talkin’
About you and me, I’m hopin’
That you’ll come back to me

I’m walkin’, yes indeed and I’m talkin’
About you and me, I’m hopin’
That you’ll come back to me, mm-mm
I’m lonely as I can be, I’m waitin’
For your company, I’m hopin’
That you’ll come back to me
What you gonna do when the well runs dry?
You’re gonna sit right down and cry
What you gonna do when I say bye-bye
All you gonna do is dry your eye
I’m walkin’, yes indeed and I’m talkin’
About you and me, I’m hopin’
That you’ll come back to me

For another song by Fats Domino: “Blueberry Hill.”
