Rhythm and Blues
Let’s get to that happy place! The song “My Blue Heaven,” which was written by Walter Donaldson (music) and George A. Whiting (lyrics) in 1924, is a pop and jazz standard. There have been so many versions, the list seems endless — from Bing Crosby to Benny Goodman to Oscar Peterson to The Platters to The Smashing Pumpkins to Bobby Vinton to Mary Lou Williams, just to name a few. Two of the most popular versions were the ones recorded by Jimmie Lunceford in 1935 and Fats Domino, in his inimitable style, in 1956. Domino’s version went to #19 on the U.S. Pop Singles Chart and #5 on the R&B Chart.
