Fats Domino My Blue Heaven

Fats Domino My Blue Heaven

Rhythm and Blues

Let’s get to that happy place! The song “My Blue Heaven,” which was written by Walter Donaldson (music) and George A. Whiting (lyrics) in 1924, is a pop and jazz standard. There have been so many versions, the list seems endless — from Bing Crosby to Benny Goodman to Oscar Peterson to The Platters to The Smashing Pumpkins to Bobby Vinton to Mary Lou Williams, just to name a few. Two of the most popular versions  were the ones recorded by Jimmie Lunceford in 1935 and Fats Domino, in his inimitable style, in 1956.  Domino’s version went to #19 on the U.S. Pop Singles Chart and #5 on the R&B Chart.

Here are the lyrics to “My Blue Heaven” by Fats Domino:

When wippoorwills call, evenin’ is nigh
I hurry to my Blue Heaven
You turn to the right, it’s got a little bright light
That  leads to my Blue Heaven
You’ll find a cozy place, fireplace, a cozy room
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom
Yes, Molly and me, and the baby makes three
We’re happy in my Blue Heaven

When wippoorwills call, evenin’ is nigh
I hurry to my Blue Heaven
You turn to the right, you find a little bright light
That  leads to my Blue Heaven
You’ll find a cozy place, fireplace, a cozy room
A little nest that nestles where the roses bloom
Yes, Molly and me, and the baby makes three
We’re happy in my Blue Heaven
