In 1962, Gene Pitney’s song “Half Heaven-Half Heartache” went to #12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, #4 in Canada, and #11 in Australia.

Born in Harford , Connecticut, in 1940, Gene Pitney was multi-talented as he was a singer, songwriter, musician, and sound engineer. He had success on his own with song such as “Town Without Pity,” “Only Love Can Break a Heart,”(The Man Who Shot) Liberty Valance,” and “Twenty Four Hours from Tulsa” — to name a few. PItney also penned hits for others, including “Rubber Ball” for Bobby Vee, “He’s a Rebel” for The Crystals, and “Hello Mary Lou” for Ricky Nelson. Pitney died in 2006 of a heart attack in Cardiff, Wales, where he was on tour. He was 66.
