Linda Scott was still in high school signed on with Canadian-American Records in 1961. The label recently had a hit with Santo & Johnny’s “Sleep Walk” that Canadian-American produced. They released Scott’s version of “I’ve Told Every Little Star,” a song originally written by Oscar Hammerstein II and Jerome Kern for the 1932 production “Music In The Air.” Her single peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961 and went on to sell more than one million copies, which earned Scott an RIAA gold record.
Linda Scott was born Linda Joy Sampson in Queens, New York. Besides “I’ve Told Every Little Star,”she had hits with “I Don’t Know Why” and “Don’t Bet Money Honey,” among a few other charting songs. She became an Army medical laboratory technician, stationed in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and married a fellow serviceman. They had a child and later divorced. She also received a degree in theology from Kingsway Christian College and Theological Seminary in Des Moines, Iowa. She went on to teach music at the Christian Academy in New York City.
