Put Your Head on My Shoulder by Paul Anka

Put Your Head on My Shoulder by Paul Anka

Pop Music

The song “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” is a golden oldies pop favorite. It was written by Paul Anka and arranged and conducted by producer Don Costa. It was released as a single in 1959 and rose to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. There have been numerous covers, including ones by The Lettermen, Nancy Sinatra, Leif Garrett, Enrique Guzmán, Myriam Hernández, and Michael Bublé. 1950s music certainly could be romantic.

Born in Ontario, Canada, in 1941, Paul Anka had already recorded several records by the time he was 15. In 1957 the 15 year-old Anka traveled to New York City where he auditioned for Don Costa at ABC. Anka sang the love song “Diana.” Costa was impressed and gave him a deal and helped to make him a teen idol in the ’50s. (The song, “Diana” brought Anka stardom as it went to #1 on the U.S., Canadian, and United Kingdom music charts.) Anka skyrocketed to a very successful career as a singer, songwriter, and actor. He wrote for Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and many, many more. He also wrote the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Anka still performs and tours internationally.

Here are the lyrics to “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” by Paul Anka:

“Put your head on my shoulder
Hold me in your arms, baby
Squeeze me, oh, so tight
Show me that you love me too

Put your lips next to mine, dear
Won’t you kiss me once, baby?
Just a kiss goodnight, may be
You and I will fall in love

People say that love’s a game
A game you just can’t win
If there’s a way
I’ll find it someday
And then this fool with rush in

Put your head on my shoulder
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear
Tell me, tell me that you love me too

Put your head on my shoulder
Whisper in my ear, baby
Words I want to hear, baby
Put your head on my shoulder”
