Short Shorts by The Royal Teens

Short Shorts by The Royal Teens

Ooh man, dig that crazy chick…Let’s just say that this song was inspired by the girls who wore short and tight cutoff jeans. The novelty song “Short Shorts” went to #3 on the U.S. singles chart in 1958. The Royal Teens consisted of the talented songwriter Bob Gaudio on piano, Tom Austin on drums (and he also provided the whistle on the song), Billy Dalton on guitar, and Billy Crandall on saxophone. The recording of “Short Shorts” also features the voice of Diana Lee.

Oo la la. Short Shorts.

The Royal Teens, a New Jersey group, went through many iterations over the years. Bob Gaudio became a member of The Four Seasons. He also wrote and produced for Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Barry Manilow, Roberta Flack, and Peabo Bryson, among others. At one point after the group had success with “Short Shorts,” a young teenager named Al Kooper played with them.

Here are the lyrics to “Short Shorts” by The Royal Teens:

“Ooh man, dig that crazy chick

Who wears short shorts
We wear short shorts, they’re such short shorts
We like short shorts
Who wears short shorts, we wear short shorts

Who wears short shorts
We wear short shorts, they’re such short shorts
We like short shorts
Who wears short shorts, we wear short shorts

Who wears short shorts
We wear short shorts, they’re such short shorts
We like short shorts
Who wears short shorts, we wear short shorts”

After a song is featured, it then goes into the juke box. You are welcome to listen to any of the 40+ selections there. Every weekend, there is a Golden Oldies Juke Box Saturday Night, and the juke box is full of song requests from the 1950s and 1960s.
