Shout by The Isley Brothers

The Isley Brothers Shout Parts 1 & 2

Soul Music

The song “Shout – Parts 1 & 2” by The Isley Brothers is one of those joyous golden oldies records that are part of 1950s music.  The Isley Brothers, from Cincinnati,  had a million-selling hit in 1959 with their single “Shout.”  The song was originally ad libbed by the brothers Ronald Isley, O’Kelly Isley, Jr., and Rudolph Isley  as something they would do onstage when performing Jackie Wilson’s “Lonely Teardrops.”  As it turns out, “Shout” had its own dance, which made it popular at parties, weddings, proms, and other events. Each time they would  sing  “a little bit softer now,” dancers would crouch down a little lower and then would slowly rise up for the “a little bit louder now” part. “Shout” shows their gospel roots and the positive message in their music. “Shout” is on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” and was later featured in the 1978 film Animal House and 1979 film The Wanderers.

Here are the lyrics to “Shout” by The Isley Brothers:

We-eee-eeel….
You know you make me wanna (Shout!)
Kick my heels up and (Shout!)
Throw my hands up and (Shout!)
Throw my head back and (Shout!)
Come on now (Shout!)
Don’t forget to say you will
Don’t forget to say, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Say you will)
Say it right now bab-ay
(Say you will)
Come on, come on
(Say you will)
Say it, will-a you-ooooo!
(Say you will)
You got it, now!
(Say) say that you love me
(Say) say that you need me
(Say) say that you want me
(Say) you wanna please me
(Say) come on now
(Say) come on now
(Say) come on now
(Say) come on now
(Say) I still remember
(Shooby-doo-wop-do-wop-wop-wop-wop)
When you used to be nine years old
(Shooby-doo-wop-do-wop-wop-wop-wop)
Yeah-yeah!
I was a fool for you, from the bottom of my soul, yeah!
(Shooby-doo-wop-do-wop-wop-wop-wop)
Now that you’ve grown, up
(Shooby-doo-wop-do-wop-wop-wop-wop)
Enough to know, yeah yeah
(Shooby-doo-wop-do-wop-wop-wop-wop)
You wanna leave me, you wanna, let me go
(Shooby-doo-wop-do-wop)
I want you to know
I said I want you to know right now, yeah!
You been good to me baby
Better than I been to myself, hey! Hey!
An if you ever leave me I don’t want nobody else, hey! Hey!

For More Golden Oldies Music

The Daily Doo Wop Rec Room has daily featured doo wop, rock and roll, R&B, or rockabilly songs that were hits during the first era of rock and roll (that is, from about 1952 until the British invasion in 1964). After a song is featured, it then goes into the juke box. You are welcome to listen to any of the 40+ selections there. Every weekend, there is a Golden Oldies Juke Box Saturday, and the juke box is full of song requests from the 1950s and 1960s.
