This song is for anyone who is sixteen — sixteen plus!

The song, written by Luther Dixon and Allyson R. Khent, was a big hit for The Crests, a New York R&B doo wop group. The song was released in 1958 and went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on the R&B Chart. It earned The Crests an RIAA Gold Record. Group members on this song are Johnny Maestro (Mastrangelo), J.T. Carter, Talmadge “Tommy” Gough, and Harold Torres. “Sixteen Candles” has been a juke box favorite over the years. Also, it was featured in American Graffiti and inspired the title of the 1984 film Sixteen Candles (the Stray Cats did  a cover of the song for the movie).
