Here are the lyrics to “Tonite Tonite” by The Mello Kings:
“Tonite, tonite, while I’m holding you so near
(Holding you so near)
Tonite, tonite, what I’d give if I could hear
(Doo wop wop)
Those three little words that would thrill the heart of me
(Thrill the heart of me)
Just whisper “Shh, I love you” and will eternally
(Whisper)
(Doo wop wop)
Tonite, tonite, more than any time before
(Any time before)
This heart of mine seems to need you so much more
(Doo wop wop)
The touch of your lips, the thrill of your embrace
(Thrill of your embrace)
Keep saying that no one will ever take your place
(Doo wop wop)
While looking up above I wished upon a star
(Doo wop doo doo, doo wop doo doo)
And prayed for a blessing from above
(Doo wop doo doo, doo wop doo doo)
Well, if my wish should come true until our life is through
(Doo wop doo doo, doo wop doo doo)
I’ll have you near to have, to hold and to love
Well, tonite, tonite, may it never reach an end
(Never reach an end)
I’ll miss you so till you’re in my arms again
(Doo wop wop)
With all of my heart I declare with all my might
(Declare with all my might)
I’ll love you forever as I love you tonite
(Love you, love you, love you tonite)
Tonite, tonite, may it never reach an end
(Never reach an end)
I’ll miss you so till you’re in my arms again
(Doo wop wop)
With all of my heart I declare with all my might
(Declare with all my might)
I’ll love you forever as I love you tonite
(Love you tonite)”
For More Golden Oldies Music
The Daily Doo Wop Rec Room has daily featured doo wop, rock and roll, R&B, or rockabilly songs that were hits during the first era of rock and roll (that is, from about 1952 until the British invasion in 1964). After a song is featured, it then goes into the juke box. You are welcome to listen to any of the 40+ selections there. Every weekend, there is a Golden Oldies Juke Box Saturday NIght, and the juke box is full of song requests from the 1950s and 1960s.

Bruce Morrow, “Cousin Brucie”, used to call “Tonight, Tonight” by the Mello Kings the greatest song ever written. The early Doo Wop songs were all “golden oldies” by the time I started listening to music on NYC radio, stations WABC, WMGM, WMCA, etc.
