The Pastels Been So Long

The Pastels Been So Long

Doo Wop Music

The song was recorded in 1957, and in 1958 it went to #4 on the R&B Chart and #24 on the U.S. Pop Chart (and remained there for 16 weeks). Group members were DiFosco (Big Dee Irwin) Ervin, James Willingham, Richard Travis, and Tony Thomas. They were from different places throughout the country (i.e., New York, Ohio, Minnesota), and came together in Greenland, courtesy of the U.S. Air Force. They were in a talent contest in 1956 at an Air Force Talent Show against the Dell Vikings. The Dell Vikings won, though, with “Come Go With Me” (hard to beat that). Anyway, “Been So Long” features some beautiful singing and is a doo wop classic.

Here are the lyrics to “Been So Long” by The Pastels:

“Been so long since I held you tight
Been so long since I kissed you goodnight
The blues are mine

Been so long my hours seem like years
Been so long I she’d those precious tears
The blues are mine

I never ever thought I’d fall in love like this
I need your arms
The warmth of your sweet kiss

Been so long I need you oh so bad
Been so long my heart is sad
The blues are mine”

For More Golden Oldies Music

The Daily Doo Wop Rec Room has daily featured doo wop, rock and roll, R&B, or rockabilly songs that were hits during the first era of rock and roll (that is, from about 1952 until the British invasion in 1964). After a song is featured, it then goes into the juke box. You are welcome to listen to any of the 40+ selections there. Every weekend, there is a Golden Oldies Juke Box Saturday Night, and the juke box is full of song requests from the 1950s and 1960s.
