Frankie Lymon Why Do Fools Fall in Love

Doo Wop

It was 1956 and Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, a New York-based R&B doo wop group, recorded the great golden oldie “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” on George Goldner’s new Gee Label. The group consisted of Lymon, Jimmy Merchant, Herman Santiago, Joe Negroni, and Sherman Garnes. The song peaked at #1 on the R&B and #6 on the Pop Chart. Lymon was only 13 and sang with that beautiful, clear high tenor voice. The group was known for their choreography as well as their singing. When asked what a 13-year-old boy might know about love, Lymon responded, “I’ve been falling in love since I was only five, but I’ve been a fool about it since I was 11.”

Here are the lyrics to “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” by Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers:

“Ooh wah, ooh wah, ooh wah, ooh wah, ooh wah, oh wah
Why do fools fall in love?

Why do birds sing so gay?
And lovers await the break of day
Why do they fall in love?
Why does the rain fall from up above?
Why do fools fall in love?
Why do they fall in love?

Love is a losing game
Love can be a shame
I know of a fool
You see
For that fool is me

Tell me why, Whyyyy, Whyyy
Tell me why

(Background Music)

Why do birds sing so gay?
And lovers await the break of day?
Why do they fall in love?
Why does the rain fall from up above?
Why do fools fall in love?
Why do they fall in love?

Why does my heart skip a crazy beat?
For I know it will reach defeat!

Tell me why, Whyyyy, Whyy
Why do fools fall in love?”

After a song is featured, it then goes into the juke box. You are welcome to listen to any of the 40+ selections there. Every weekend, there is a Golden Oldies Juke Box Saturday Night, and the juke box is full of song requests from the 1950s and 1960s.
